    Assistant Director: Fitness & Wellness

    Job Description:This position reports to the Associate Director for Programs of Campus Recreation. The Associate Director works collaboratively with departmental staff to aid the Director in developing and managing a comprehensive Campus Recreation program at the University at Albany.

    Supervisory Relationships:Graduate Assistants assigned to Fitness & WellnessStudent Staff assigned to Fitness & Wellness

    Group Exercise:Develop, coordinate, schedule, publicize, and review the semester based Group Exercise scheduleRecruit, hire, train, schedule and actively mentor all Group Exercise instructorsOversee the creation, presentation, and implementation of the staffing and equipment budget for the Group Exercise programDevelop and update policies and procedures for Group Exercise program and staffSchedule fitness certifications and workshops through national organizations as neededTeach select Group Exercise classes as needed

    Fitness Center:Manage the day-to day operations of the SEFCU Arena Fitness Center and other assigned fitness spacesHire, train, schedule, and evaluate all student staffing for fitness areasOversee the creation, presentation, and implementation of the staffing budget for all fitness areasSupervise a preventative maintenance program for all fitness equipment Research and recommend fitness equipment purchasesDevelop and administer special events and programs in the fitness areasSpecial Events:

    Be the departmental lead for all Divisional Special Events including the Great DanetopiaDesign, implement, and supervise all departmental Special EventsAssist in bringing new events and wellness based programs to the university communityWork in coordination with campus wellness partners to offer programs to studentsPersonal Training:

    Develop a Personal Training program from the ground upCreate and implement policies and procedures for the Personal Training program to include pricing, waivers, intake formsOversee the creation, presentation, and implementation of the Personal Training budgetGeneral Duties:

    Assists in establishing and implementing goals and objectivesAssists the director in creating the department’s strategic planInteracts with Director and staff members regarding topics to help identify opportunities for improvementWork with all Campus Recreation Programming professional staff members to actively communicate and market all programs through print media, electronic media, social media, special events and any other efforts deemed appropriate to effectively reach the University CommunityMaintains a positive relationship with other personnel and departments that assist in the development of Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilitiesRepresents the Department of Campus Recreation and The University at Albany on various committees, boards, and associationsInteracts with students, faculty, and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the departmentPerforms related or similar duties as required or assigned

    Requirements:Required:Master’s degree in Sports Administration, Recreation, Athletic/Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration and/or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization2-3 years of relevant experience in group fitness, mind/body class instruction, and/or personal trainingApplicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

    Preferred:2-3 years of demonstrated experience in successful management of student staff in a collegiate recreational fitness programFitness Instructor certification from ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM or comparable organizationExperience with both Personal Training and Group FitnessAbility to teach and train staff to teach a variety of group fitness classesKnowledge of nutritional guidelines and principlesMembership and participation in the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA)

    Additional Information:Professional Rank and Salary Range: Senior Staff Assistant, SL-3, $43,000 – $45,000

    Start date: On or about July 1, 2015
