How to Dress the Part for an Interview

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who likes interviews. This is the closest to a fiscal audit you’ll ever get, and one of the most stressful situations you can go through. However, you can win half of the battle if you dress right. You will look and feel comfortable, and project the image that you want. Clothing makes a huge difference in how you’re perceived, and you’ll be able to impress from the minute you walk in the door.

Not everyone understands what to wear and what not to wear in an interview, though. Let’s take a look at how you can nail the interview look.

    Choose Your Accessories Wisely

The choice of accessory will largely depend on the type of position and the company. If you’re looking for a floor job at a cool retail shop, then you want to wear something that is in line with their brand. But, if you’re looking for an executive position in a big company, you’ll have to keep that in mind when picking your accessories.

For men, a tailored suit with a silk tie and tie bar is a must. You should also consider adding a pocket square. For women, the right bag could make all the difference. If you’re looking for a perfect bag for an interview, we suggest you pick a Fendi bag from the collection available at SSENSE. They have some discreet tote bags that would look great for the occasion, but they’ll also show a sense of style and sophistication. This could make a huge difference and help stand out. You might also find the perfect pair of designer shoes to complement your outfit at a designer store like SSENSE.

    Get the Proper Fit

If you’re a man and you’re going to be wearing a suit, it’s really better to wear no suit than an ill-fitting one. If you can’t get your hands on a tailored suit for any reason, try to find a way around it. In some cases, you might be able to pull it off with a nice wool or cashmere V-neck with a tie and smart pair of pants.

This is also important for women; if you’re going to be wearing some sort of jacket, make sure that it is comfortable and not too tight. You should make sure that it’s not too high either. For the rest of the outfit, you can go with something off the rack, as long as it fits right and doesn’t take too much attention away from you.

    Dressing for Casual Interviews

Knowing what to put on for a casual interview can sometimes be more difficult than for a formal one. If it’s business casual, go for comfortable business wear, but not sneakers or jeans. This goes for women as well. Go for something that will still be acceptable in most business settings, but not the gym.

These few suggestions should be enough to help you look the best at your next interview. Make sure you get an idea of what the employer looks for in a candidate as far as style goes, and learn as much about their company culture as you can before you go in.
