Job Description

Northridge University, a leading institution in technology and innovation, is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Assistant Professor of Computer Science for a tenure-track position. As part of the Department of Computer Science, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service, playing a vital role in shaping the department’s academic excellence. Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Computer Science will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:

Teaching & Curriculum Development

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in computer science, with an emphasis on AI, cybersecurity, or data science.
  • Developing and updating course materials to reflect emerging trends and best practices in the field.
  • Implementing innovative teaching methodologies, including project-based learning and hands-on applications, to enhance student engagement.
  • Mentoring and advising students on academic progress, research opportunities, and career development.

Research & Scholarly Activities

  • Conducting original, high-impact research in areas such as machine learning, network security, or big data analytics.
  • Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and top-tier conference proceedings.
  • Collaborating with faculty members across departments to develop interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Seeking and securing external research funding from sources such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), or corporate sponsors.

University & Community Service

  • Serving on department and university committees to shape academic policies and strategic initiatives.
  • Engaging in community outreach programs, promoting STEM education among underrepresented populations.
  • Establishing partnerships with tech companies, government agencies, and research institutions to create internship and employment opportunities for students.
  • Participating in professional organizations and presenting research at national and international conferences.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • A strong record of published research in reputable computer science journals and conferences.
  • Experience in teaching computer science courses at the college or university level.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience securing research grants and external funding from government or industry sources.
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate with academic, industry, and government partners on research projects.
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing.
    • Cybersecurity – Network security, ethical hacking, cryptography.
    • Data Science – Big data, predictive analytics, cloud computing.
  • A passion for mentoring students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in technology.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C++, or R.
