Responsibilities
The Assistant Professor of Computer Science will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in computer science, with an emphasis on AI, cybersecurity, or data science.
- Developing and updating course materials to reflect emerging trends and best practices in the field.
- Implementing innovative teaching methodologies, including project-based learning and hands-on applications, to enhance student engagement.
- Mentoring and advising students on academic progress, research opportunities, and career development.
Research & Scholarly Activities
- Conducting original, high-impact research in areas such as machine learning, network security, or big data analytics.
- Publishing in peer-reviewed journals and top-tier conference proceedings.
- Collaborating with faculty members across departments to develop interdisciplinary research projects.
- Seeking and securing external research funding from sources such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), or corporate sponsors.
University & Community Service
- Serving on department and university committees to shape academic policies and strategic initiatives.
- Engaging in community outreach programs, promoting STEM education among underrepresented populations.
- Establishing partnerships with tech companies, government agencies, and research institutions to create internship and employment opportunities for students.
- Participating in professional organizations and presenting research at national and international conferences.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
- A strong record of published research in reputable computer science journals and conferences.
- Experience in teaching computer science courses at the college or university level.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience securing research grants and external funding from government or industry sources.
- A demonstrated ability to collaborate with academic, industry, and government partners on research projects.
- Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing.
- Cybersecurity – Network security, ethical hacking, cryptography.
- Data Science – Big data, predictive analytics, cloud computing.
- A passion for mentoring students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in technology.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C++, or R.
